Followup on my sister got fired

Sat Apr 19, 2008 at 05:20:15 AM PDT

My diary from last night. The more I think about it today, the more convinced I am that my sister has an actual case against them.

She was an exemplary employee for over 10 years. She has a documented case of having surgery on her shoulder, a direct result of the job she's been doing, they worked her to the point of breaking her shoulder AGAIN, then she takes a day off because her shoulder is hurting, they write her up for it, which is really unheard of, and then, when she signs the papers and expresses visible displeasure at being written up, they FIRE her?? The very next work day?

My sister told me they have been systematically firing everybody there with health benefits and replacing them with low-paid temps...........that should be pretty easy to prove.

And they made no attempt to counsel her, or put her on probation or anything.........just walked her out the door, THE VERY NEXT DAY,  when she wasn't happy that they wrote her up for doing something that everybody does all the time. Her shoulder was hurting. She's had surgery on it, as a direct result of the work she was doing.

And I still don't get what the "insubordination" part was. She signed the damn papers. Was it the expression on her face? The fact that she threw the signed papers on the desk and said "fine"? Is that insubordination or is it just righteous outrage?

It seems to me there might be a lot there for a good lawyer to work with. At least to the point of getting unemployment benefits, and maybe to the point of a wrongful-termination suit. Nobody ever does that there, because, face it, they're all just peons with no money and no hope, so nobody ever does it. But I feel a little burning urge to do something about it, if I can get my sister to go along.

Here's the original diary I'm talking about.
