Apocalyptic prophecies from a John Bircher

I'm a little lit tonight after today's cool happy hour with the coworkers, so bear with me. But for some reason, it came to my mind last night to re-read my very dog-eared copy of Jeane Dixon's "My Life and Prophecies" published in 1969, and see how she did. For those of you who don't know, Jeane Dixon was one of the most celebrated psychics of the 60s, people took her way more seriously than Nostradamus. And she was a devout Catholic, and everything she thought was filtered through that belief.

Well......ahem. In the first place, it's very clear that Jeane Dixon just hated all of us DFH's that were young when she was writing. I myself was 17 in 1969 and read her book a few years later. Now I don't doubt that the woman had some psychic ability, but it's amazing what a little talent will do when filtered through a person's political, social, religious and ethnic prejudices.

She thought that Richard Nixon was going to be the savior of the world from the Communist Menace. Thus, she totally failed to foresee, Watergate, Iran-Contra, both Gulf Wars, and well, everything.

The main thing I take away from her book today is that she sounds like a classic John Bircher. Sees a Commie Plot behind every social trend and experiment. She said in that book that she believed the Civil Rights movement was crummy infiltrated with Commies. (Oh she also said that Negroes were being placed in high places before they were ready for them - direct quote).

She did appear to make some accurate predictions.....assassination of John and Robert Kennedy (which she claims to have tried to warn him) and Martin Luther King. But she claims James Earl Ray was just an innocent scapegoat for the Commies who really did it.

And she does appear to have accurately predicted the tragic Apollo  fire that killed the three astronauts Gus Grissom, Edward White, and Roger Chaffee.

BUT...when she starts trying to spread out to future years..........boy does she bomb out. Predicted a comet would strike the Earth in the 80s, and it would change the political landscape........and predicted that there would be a woman President in the 1980s.

So, didn't foresee, Watergate, Iran-Contra, the Reagan Presidency, Gulf War I and II, the Internet, Dubya. In short, absolutely nothing that defines our lives today. And she also hated the Space Program. Classic John Birch.

She foresaw a lot of wars.............but they were all wars in line with John Birch philosophy.and none of the wars that have actually happened..she foresaw in the early 21st century China and Mongol hordes invading the Middle East - a war of East vs. West..........except she saw the invaders as red-jacketed Maoists.

One of her predictions that particularly cracked me up was her prediction that Fidel Castro would be assassinated because his "Russian masters" would be sick of him once his usefulness was ended........hmmmmmmmmmm.......she didn't seem to see that Fidel would not only survive the Death of Communism but live to a ripe old age. hahaha.

It's also interesting to me her views re the Antichrist, who according to her was born in 1962, and his influence would start being felt in the 70s. She seemed to think that the Antichrist would draw young people away from Christianity toward Eastern religions.

Now mind you, a lot of her descriptions of life under the Antichrist sound a lot like life under Dubya. But I don't think that Dubya was what she had in mind haha. And a lot of the current situation in the Middle East does sound like what she's saying, but I don't think she had ISLAM in mind as the religion that would corrupt impressionable American youth. I think she had Maharishi Mahesh Yogi more in mind haha.

The cover picture of the book is interesting too. A very Jackie Kennedyesque silhouette portrait of the Lovely Jeane, who actually looked nothing like that.

I wonder now how people who bought into that Nostradamus
"eagle and bear" crap are feeling about now. The ones that thought that predicted a big showdown between Russia and America.

Oh and by the way, she predicts the Red Chinese will take over the world in 2025. Well maybe they will..........but I imagine it's not the way that Miss Jeane envisioned. hahaha

Economic takeovers were NOT on her radar.
